Just a thought, when we are talking about emptiness we are purifying old bad karma which is causing them to ripen in a lesser way now. It appears that life is getting worse for a while then it burns out and goes. It is good to have an understanding of this, then one can be happy that the appearance of rising bad karma is a sign that we have gained some ground on the path, and not react to those appearances.
