OBSESSIONS OF WICKEDNESS

Most of us ask the question sometime in our life, "What is this evil from which I should abstain?Ԭ Well, some can test themselves to determine their knowledge of right or wrong moral and ethical conduct. They can take a good hard look at their feelings when the thought of an act is being entertained. The feeling of guilt we sometimes experience is one indicator that the action contemplated may be wrong or unwholesome.
Of course there is also the possibility that one‘¦s conscience may somehow slip off the high straight road and flagellate the poor being - in the attitude of Paul, Augustine, Calvin and Martin Luther. All of whom were obsessed with the wickedness of man.
Most western religions follow their party line as they shout: "Repent, atone you miserable sin filled worms! Beat yourself with the rod of repentance. Lacerate your guilt filled soul with the keen blade of conscience - if you do not, you will not be fit to sit on the right hand of your god."
And many human beings go through life suffering because they have been told that they are inherently wicked and unless they suffer deeply they will go to hell. Poor beings.
It is amazing when we consider the number of human beings that are already in hell and don't know it; perhaps not "the" hell - but at least a hell of a life.
