Gassho Ann,Our president doesn't fall into the catagory of "playing stupid"; he really is stupid. I wonder what it must be like to be just like everyone else in his circle. Those Yale high bred Skull and Bones guys really believe they can't make mistakes because of our "Super Power". Now people are suffering: families splitting up do to money, people losing their houses, prices going up up up yet we are told there is no inflation, Lies and greed that leads to fear and loathing.
I like your use of the word "respect" for others. It is only respect that the average person needs. It is a desire, or can be, that can cause some crazy actions to gain: like the use of violence. When a man feels he has lost all respect he feels there is now way out, so it leads to the insanity of violence. The countries that can do "The West" some harm and suffering gains respect among their cartels and groups.
We let China have our respect because China is our biggest banker that pays our bills. Yet our government turns the blind eye of ignorance toward Tibet.I so too agree that compassion seems to just stop when we need it most. A brick wall of fear seems to paralyse or block, even the thought. And the actions of the directly and indirectly become warped. I find myself thinking about revenge toward Islamic fanatics. Wrong, un-wholesome thoughts seep into whole consciousness of people pushed into a corner. Look at the displaced Palastinians that have become poster children for violence. It is self fulfilling. The moneyis there to help these disenfranchised people. Now it has hit home. And we see our "Leaders" visit whole communities blighted; they always visit after the fact.
I know your compassion and respect for others, even our "Enemies", is there in the true meaning of life/death cycles.
It is a time that tests our spiritual practice. We have the basics available, now onto the next step. "Why are you just sitting there?"
A person asks as we meditate and my answer is "I'm learning".Metta,
Richard
