"Short-term gain"

Richard, Gassho

Yes, I'm talking physical gains, like money.. greedful things. The beef that I have with myself is that I allow myself to be frustrated by it. I know I cause my own suffering. We all pay our own dues and I'm perfectly aware that my frustration is just a payment for my inability to just let it go. Should I stop thinking about what a great world this would be if people really understood what the word "Respect" means? I suppose I should since thinking about obviously doesn't make it so, and I can't force the horse to take a drink of water. So I suppose I should accept that I live in a world where many of our global leaders think economic gain and personal wealth have more value than life.

It's really very hard detaching oneself from the thought. We can look out at the world and see the problems. We know what the solution to those problems is and how much better the world would be if everyone realized the solution. We can feel compassion for those who suffer at the hands of others and realize that that suffering is not necessary. But we can't have attachments to that compassion otherwise we create the suffering in ourselves. We have to make sure the compassion flows through us continuously without stopping long enough to become a burden. Right now I think I failed at keeping things flowing.

Oh well.. I know how to get to Carnegie Hall. Practice, practice practice.

Thanks Richard. Believe it or not just having this opportunity for me to yammer about it has helped flush the problem out into the open where I can hopefully deal with it better.
